If you’re boozing, you’re probably NOT losing!
Don’t shoot the messenger, but if you have a BLOATED BOOZY BELLY, alcohol could the issue. Depending on your drink of choice, you could easily be consuming hundreds of extra calories and grams of sugar in your glass.
But that’s not even the REAL culprit… it’s waaaaaay worse than just a matter of a few extra calories 😲
5 Sobering Reasons Why Alcohol is Preventing Weight Loss:
- Alcohol is a carbohydrate, but it’s converted into glucose differently than other carbohydrates. Instead, it’s converted into fatty acids and thus is likely to be stored as body FAT.
- Alcohol depresses the central nervous system (that’s why the slurred speech and wobbling walks). If it’s slowing down the CNS that much, imagine how sluggish it’s making your metabolism. In fact, we know it slows considerably for up to 48 hours after as little as two drinks! Reduced metabolic activity for a couple days… or maybe even 6 days if you’re having a couple drinks 3 times a week… that’s a lot of reduced calorie burning and subsequent weight gain!
- Alcohol is dehydrating, and irritates the gastrointestinal tract and liver. One of the first things we often do when dehydrated is reach for food, as our bodies often misinterpret dehydration for hunger.
- Blood sugar balance goes on vacation when you drink alcohol, which subsequently contributes to reduced energy, disrupted sleep patterns, difficulty regulating body temperature, increased hunger and cravings, and weight gain.
- Our inhibitions tend to check out after a drink or two, usually leading to poor food choices that sabotage our health or weight loss efforts.
